Who Are We?

Providing an inclusive snowsports program, to break down barriers associated with autism/disabilities

At Aberdeen Snowsports we offer lessons to clients with varying degrees of additional support needs/disabilities. Sometimes we refer to these lessons as 'adaptive' or 'ASN' (additional support needs).

We welcome individuals to visit our Centre prior to booking lessons. If you would like to arrange a visit, please phone the centre and ask to speak to Beth or via email beth@aberdeensnowsports.com.

On this website, we have included photos and a video tour of the Centre (with narrative) to show you what to expect when visiting our Centre. The website also shows staff profiles with photos. We provide the use of a 'quiet room' should it be needed. This room is shown on our tour as the 'hobbit hut'. This may change but would always be clearly identified prior to lessons
Our quieter times at the Centre are Mondays to Fridays 9am - 3pm, however during the winter season we have a lot of groups in. Busy times are weekends and evenings. On Wednesday evenings, we hold ASN lessons.

Benefits of skiing

We recently asked some of our customers how skiing has benefitted them,

“Physical exercise, self-esteem, social interaction”
“Greatly improved self-confidence and a sense of belonging”
“Confidence, stability and self-motivation”
“Their self-confidence, balance and core strength have all improved. Seeing their faces as they achieve something they didn't think possible or think themselves capable of is absolutely priceless!”
“100 percent”
“Great for exercise, balance, co-ordination, socialising and he really likes it”
“It has improved her confidence and now she has something she loves to do”

How to Book a Lesson

When you make a booking for a lesson via phone or email, we will ask for registration details which will generate a Client Welfare Form to be emailed to you. If you would prefer, the registration details can also be issued to you by email. On completion of both forms, we will ensure that snowsports equipment will be set up for you prior to your lesson. Helmets are fitted immediately prior to your lesson.

Individual Requirements

We will always accommodate any requirements where possible. For example, if you would like the lights off in the Centre when you visit, just let us know and we can do this.  If you have already registered with us, returned your Client Welfare and booked into a lesson, you do not have to stop at Reception but can walk straight through to our Ski Hire.  In Ski Hire, your snowsports equipment will be set up on benches. This will be identified with your name. This may be in a different place each week but we will try to keep it the same.

On a Wednesday evening when we hold our main ASN lessons, there is no music on in the buildings. If reception is busy and if you would prefer it, we can arrange for you to enter the premises through a side gate where it will be quieter.

Our lessons are outside and there are some external factors we cannot control. We are in a flight path to Aberdeen airport and therefore, aeroplanes and helicopters do fly overhead which generate noise. Asda car park is opposite the ski centre and cars are always entering and exiting. Sometimes, car alarms will sound which can be heard from the ski slope. There are football pitches and a path next to the ski slope and loud voices carry sound to the ski slopes.

During the winter months and late evenings, we do have floodlights on our ski slopes.  Lights will be on in the Centre but T'V's will be turned off.  There are vending machines in our reception area that generate light.  From the ski slopes, lights can be seen of the surrounding area ie properties, transport and aeroplanes.
